The “Body & Sew” program came about as their teacher Donald Frost began showing the students some quilts he had made. Interest quickly grew, and they began to ask Mr. Frost to make them each one. Instead of making it for them, Mr. Frost and his wife, Melissa, decided to teach those who wanted to learn how to make quilts for themselves. Now, these students stay on their own free time, Fridays after school, for their quilting club.
With “Body & Sew” the goal is not only to teach these kids a life skill, but also to think “outside the box” and to help the community. Each student makes at least one quilt that they will donate to a Children’s Hospital or youth program, before they move on to making a quilt for themselves.
